Rivers’ political crisis paves the way for a new era of growth – Fubara
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed confidence that the recent political upheaval in the state is part of God’s divine plan, ushering in a new era of political freedom, economic progress, and sustainable development for the region.
In a statement made during a special Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, Fubara emphasized that, despite the challenges his administration faced, the support of God has turned what could have been a crisis into a source of strength. He credited the resilience of his government to divine guidance, which has allowed the state to overcome adversity and move forward with renewed purpose.
The service, held at the Shepherd’s Hill Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Mgbuoba, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, was organized in honor of His Royal Majesty, Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, Eze Oha Apara IV, who was recently appointed Chairman of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council. During the event, the church leadership presented the royal father with copies of the Holy Bible as part of the occasion.
In his remarks, Governor Fubara shared his belief that the so-called political troubles were, in fact, a manifestation of God’s plan for the state. He said, “I also believe that what you are calling trouble is not trouble to me. I see it as God’s purpose for a new direction for our state. He has lifted us higher from day one, which is why, rather than growing weak, we are becoming stronger and bolder each day.”

The governor also reaffirmed his commitment to leading the state with the fear of God, trusting in divine wisdom, and seeking God’s direction for his administration. He added, “We are committed to completing our work, and our story will be one of those who led with the fear of God. We may not be perfect in every area, but in the end, there should be no reason for the angels to allow our bodies to fall to the devil.”
Fubara stressed the importance of thanksgiving as a spiritual practice, noting that it brings clarity and divine assurance, particularly in times of uncertainty. Reflecting on the royal father’s example, he observed with admiration how Eze Wodo danced joyously before God, drawing a parallel to the biblical King David’s own passionate displays of worship. “It is one of the reasons God loved King David so deeply. He especially glorified God, showing no shame, and God loved him,” the governor remarked. “I am both delighted and humbled to see that, even at your age and as a traditional ruler, you still hold God in the highest esteem. God will continue to lift you beyond human imagination.”
Governor Fubara also emphasized the role of the church and the power of prayer in his administration’s success. He acknowledged that although political challenges may appear overwhelming from a human perspective, God’s purposes will ultimately prevail. “The secret to our administration’s success is simple: your prayers. The quiet, private prayers you offer for us matter. I can assure you, there is no prayer God does not answer. It is like depositing money in the bank,” he said. “So, I thank you and assure you that we will continue to uphold the fear of God in all we do.”
As a gesture of appreciation, Fubara made a generous donation of ₦100 million to the church to support its evangelistic efforts, designating the gift as a memorial in honor of Eze Chike Worlu Wodo and his leadership in the state’s traditional institutions.
The event concluded with Fubara expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to worship alongside the royal family and the church community, underscoring his administration’s firm belief that placing God at the forefront of governance will lead to ultimate success and prosperity for Rivers State.
