RIVERS RERUN: Amaechi floors Wike to produce Sen Abe as winner

Senator Magnus Abe of the APC has emerged winner of the rerun election in South-east senatorial district of Rivers State.

The rerun election had seen two major political leaders in that state square up in a face off of superiority over who controls the political environment of the state.

Governor Nyesome Wike of the PDP, and his predecessor, who is the current minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi of the APC had left no one in doubt that they were both keen on producing the winner of the rerun polls for the parties.

Abe, who was declared winner of the election by INEC’s Chief Returning Officer for the rerun, Onukwuisi Gideon on Sunday evening garnered a total of 125,938 votes to defeat Olaka Nwogu of the PDP, who got 25,394 votes.

Magnus Ngei Abe was born on 24th May ,1965. He was elected Senator in the April 2011 elections, under the PDP platform.

His re-election bid suffered a setback in 2015, but he challenged the outcome of the poll which led to both the Election Tribunal and Appeal Court ordering a fresh election, which were marred with violence in the past, until the December 10 election.
Abe was also a former secretary to the Rivers state government.
