RIVERS RERUN: Police recover Wike’s N110m allege bribe from INEC staff

The Nigeria Police says it has recovered about N111.3 million from 23 officials of INEC who took part in the Rivers State rerun elections.

Pictures have surfaced of the cash displayed by the police, which it alleges was used by Governor Nyesome Wike to bribe the electoral officials to rig that election.

Recall that on the heels of the violence that trailed the election, there were accusations by the state Rivers  State government that the security agencies, namely the police were culpable in in trying to rig the elections.

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris had set up an investigative panel to look into the violence and accusations, but Governor Wike said the state and its people will not be part of it, as the police, according to it, was responsible for the violence, and killings.

However, the IGP’s panel led by DCP Damian Okoro, which presented its report in Abuja on Tuesday said that the money was part of N360 million collected by the INEC officials to rig the December 10 elections.

According to him, some of the INEC staff got N15 million each while three senior electoral officers got N20 million each.
