Scores killed as armed bandits raid Zamfara communities

A group of suspected cult members have killed two policemen in the Botem community of Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State following an attack on their convoy.

Reports say the police officers were on their way to Ogoniland after being deployed there ahead of Saturday’s (today) general elections when they were ambushed by the assailants.

After gunning down the two police officers at close range, the hoodlums stripped them of their rifles and took to their heels when operatives from Tai Police Division arrived at the scene of the incident.

The attack was confirmed by Nnamdi Omoni, the State Police Public Relations Officer, who informed that investigation into the matter had commenced.

“I can confirm that two of our men were killed along the Ogoni axis of East-West Road in Botem, Tai LGA. It was an ambush; the CP has since ordered an investigation into the incident. We are also getting some clues as to the identities of those behind the cruel act. The two policemen were sergeants,” he said.
