Goalkeeper Robert Green has joined English Premier League club Chelsea from Huddersfield Town on a one-year contract.

Green, who spent a year at Huddersfield without making a single first-team appearance, moved to Stamford Bridge on a free transfer to become the third choice behind Thibaut Courtois and Willy Caballero.

“It has been a whirlwind 24 hours. You are thinking about your career and where you want to go and then you get a phone call like this, and it is a short conversation,” said the 38-year-old to the club’s official website.

He added: “It has been a pretty dramatic time for me and I can’t wait to get started. I am absolutely delighted and it is a thrill and an honour to be here.”

The experienced keeper began his career at Norwich City where he made 200 appearances, moved to West Ham in 2006 to 2012, before joining QPR and left in 2016. From there he spent a year at Leeds before he signed for Huddersfield.

Green also earned 12 caps for England and began the 2010 World Cup as No1. However, he lost his place after his error gifted USA’s Clint Dempsey an equaliser in the opening game. His last cap came in 2012 against Norway.
