Rohr admits Super Eagles have lot of work to do before W’Cup

Following their 2-1 defeat to the Three Lions of England in a friendly at Wembley on Saturday, Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has declared that his team are not ready for the World Cup.

The Eagles, drawn against three top teams in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, have failed to win their last three warm-up games – drawing one and losing two.

The team put up a sloppy display against England in the first half for which they conceded twice, thanks to goals by Gary Cahill and Harry Kane in the 7th and 39th minutes respectively.

Nigeria improved in the second half but could not complete a comeback as Alex Iwobi’s 47th-minute consolation was just not enough.

Speaking after the game, Rohr, whose tactics have been praised in many quarters regarding the swift turnaround in the second half, expressed his disappointment over his side’s display.

“This game shows we still have a lot of work to do to be ready for the World Cup.

“We have to make the best use of the 2 weeks left before our first game in Russia. It’s time to focus..no distractions,” the Franco-German technician said in his postmatch conference.

Rohr led the team through the qualifiers, overcoming African giants Cameroon, Algeria and Zambia, to grab the sole ticket from the group.

But his players will face a stronger opposition in Croatia, Iceland and Argentina when they kick off their campaign in Russia.

Meanwhile, the team will travel to Austria where they will camp for the final phase of their preparations, and also play a final friendly against Czech Republic on Wednesday.
