Poland vs Nigeria friendly good for both nations -Rohr

Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, and former international, Emmanuel Amuneke, has praised the home-based Eagles for advancing to the last four of the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Eagles fought back from a goal down to beat Angola 2-1 in the quarter-final encounter on Sunday, thanks to goals by Anthony Okpotu and Gabriel Okechukwu that cancelled Vladimir Va’s opener.

Rohr acknowledged the quality of the team, adding that they deserved to advance as they never gave up in the chase.

“We are very happy because it was a wonderful game and it was not easy but the team deserved to qualify because they never gave up,” Rohr told journalists after the game in Tangiers.

“This result is a very good result and shows the quality in this team which plays good football now making the semi-finals of the competition is a good success for Nigerian football,” he added.

Speaking to Complete Sports, Amuneke opined that the team edged Angola by luck, and warned that they must improve in their scoring abilities if they are going to make it to the final.

“The Sudanese side was more physical in their approach to the game and we all saw how they stifled the Zambians’ creativity and that was enough for them to emerge winners in their quarter-final game.

“So many chances were squandered by the Eagles despite the two goals they scored. But if they are going to make it to the final, all chances should be utilised. We were lucky against Angola.”

The former Nigeria youth coach, who now manages Sudanese top side Al Khartoum, added that he will be supporting the Eagles when they face Sudan in the last four.

“I’m a Nigerian and I hope they win, but that won’t change or add anything. Both teams must show hunger and desire to win on Wednesday.”

The semifinal clash comes up on Wednesday.
