Ronaldo is Ballon d'Or favourite -Isco

Real Madrid and Spain attacking midfielder, Isco believes his club teammate Cristiano Ronaldo is the ‘clear’ favourite for the 2017 Ballon d’Or award.

Isco and Ronaldo are among the 30-man shortlist for this season’s award, and 32-year-old Ronaldo is aiming for his fifth crown after also winning the award last season.

“In my opinion, Cristiano has to win this Ballon d’Or – it is clear,” Isco told reporters after Madrid’s draw with Tottenham on Tuesday.

“Being on the podium will be hard enough because there are so many amazing players who have enjoyed a tremendous year.

In the 30-man shortlist, seven are players plying their trade in UEFA and La Liga champions Real Madrid, and Isco suggests that any player from the club deserve the title as they have had a ‘great year’.

“Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric can both be there as well, they have been so important for us and more widely, any player from Real Madrid can be there due to the year we have had,” he added.

“To have an amazing season is key to winning these individual prizes and the more we do as a team the more individual prizes the players will win also.”

Meanwhile, Argentina and Barcelona forward, Lionel Messi, PSG and Brazilian striker, Neymar, are also contending for the prize.

The winner of the 2017 edition will be revealed on December 6, 2017.
