Real Madrid winger, Cristiano Ronaldo says he is “very happy and proud” of his career at the Spanish capital after becoming the Club World Cup’s all-time top goalscorer.

The Portugal striker netted the equaliser for Madrid in their 2-1 comeback win against UAE’s Al Jazira in a semifinal encounter on Wednesday to increase his goals tally to 6 in the competition.

His goal took him past Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Cesar Delgado who are on five each.

The record-breaking feat came just days after Ronaldo clinched the fifth Ballon d’Or of his career, and the winger admits that his successes motivate him to work even harder.

“First of all, I’m very happy. It’s something that makes me proud, mainly because of the path I’ve taken at Madrid,” he told Real Madrid TV.

“Winning my fifth Ballon d’Or and now being the top scorer of the Club World Cup, for me, is motivation to keep working hard, with happiness and sacrifice.

“I’d also like to thank my teammates because without them, it would be impossible to win things, but the truth is that I’m very happy.

“I’ll keep fighting and making my fans and the people that follow Ronaldo happy. I’m very happy,” he said.

Ronaldo will be leading a Real team against Brazilian side, Gremio in Saturday’s Club World Cup final, as they hope to win the title a third time.

They return to their domestic on December 23 when they host rivals Barcelona in the first El Clasico of the La Liga season at the Bernabeu.
