Ronaldo declares self best footballer in history

After picking up a fifth Ballon d’Or title on Thursday, Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has declared himself the best footballer in history.

The Portugal captain beat Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and PSG’s Neymar to the award organised by France Football magazine, equalling Messi’s haul of five awards.

Ronaldo and Messi have won the last 10 Ballon d’Or awards between them and have generated heated debate as to which one is the best player of this generation and probably of all time.

Ronaldo is also the reigning Best FIFA Men’s Player of the year – a title he has won as many times as the world football governing body has organised the award.

“I don’t see anyone better than me,” the 32-year old told France Football.

“No player does things that I cannot do myself, but I see things others can’t do. There’s no more complete player than me. I’m the best player in history — in the good and the bad moments.”
