Ronaldo rested as Juventus fall to first league defeat of season

Cristiano Ronaldo was not in action for Juventus on Sunday as the Serie A champions lost 2-0 away to Genoa.

The defeat at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium was their first defeat this season in the Italian Serie A.

Ronaldo, who joined the Old Lady at the beginning of the season, was rested by manager Massimiliano Allegri.

Understandably as the Portuguese had put up an energy-sapping man-of-the-match performance during their Champions League win against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

The visitors thought they had taken the lead with their first shot on target after 55 minutes through Paulo Dybala, but Referee Marco Di Bello was instructed by VAR that there had been an offside in the build-up and the goal was ruled out.

Inside the 20 minutes left, Stefano Sturaro and Goran Pandev scored the two goals for Genoa, who sealed a memorable victory against the champions.

Juve are however holding an 18-point lead at the summit of the Serie A table.

But it could be cut to 15 points if second-placed Napoli overcome Udinese later today (Sunday).
