Ronaldo sets new records, as Madrid win Club World Cup

2016 Ballon d’Or winner Christiano Ronaldo has set new records for himself after scoring a hat-trick in the final showdown of the FIFA Club World Cup between his Madrid side and Japanese Kashima Antlers on Sunday.

In the cracking game that ended 4-2 after extra time, Ronaldo’s first goal came from the penalty spot. He doubled his tally at the 97th minute and completed the hat-trick at the 104th minute.

The win on Sunday adds to the forward’s 2016 silverwares, as he had won the UEFA Champions League with Real madrid, the Euro 2016 title with Portugal, and now the Club World Cup with Madrid.

Also, in an incredible stat, the Portugal international has now scored 40 hat-tricks for Real Madrid since joining the club.

He’s now the joint top scorer in Club World Cup history with five goals, level with Cesar Delgado, Luiz Suarez and Lionel Messi.

Ronaldo is also the second player to score a hat-trick in a FIFA Club World Cup or Intercontinental Club Cup final after Pele in 1962.
