Ronaldo to miss Super Cup clash against former club Man United

World Best Player Cristiano Ronaldo may not be fielded in the Super Cup clash against his former club Manchester United, as Real Madrid are planning to give their talisman an extended rest this summer.

The Super Cup, which is to be played between the UEFA Champions League title holders and the Europa League title holders, is scheduled for August 8.

Ronaldo scored twice last weekend as Real beat Juventus 4-1 in the Champions League final, which meant he bagged a staggering 42 goals in all competitions last season.

The victory at Cardiff ensured a reunion for the Portuguese superstar with Manchester United, who had already booked their place in the showpiece event in Macedonia after defeating Ajax in a comfortable 2-0 win in the Europa League final at the Friends Arena in Stockholm on May 24.

But according to Spanish daily sport newspaper, Marca, the Spanish champions plan on giving the 32-year-old forward an extended break during pre-season, meaning he will not face the Red Devils on August 8.

The situation also greatly complicates the presence of Ronaldo in the friendlies that Madrid will play, including the pre-season El Clasico with Barcelona, in the United States of America from July 23.

Except there’s an early elimination for Portugal in the Confederations Cup, like last year, Ronaldo will not step foot in the United States.

The highest-paid athlete is currently with the Portugal squad as they prepare to face Latvia in a World Cup qualifier, before travelling to Russia for the Confederations Cup.
