Ronaldo's goal drought continues as Madrid edge Alaves

Real Madrid forward, Cristiano Ronaldo fired blank in his second La Liga game of the season as his side secured a 2-1 victory over Alaves at the Mendizorrotza on Saturday.

It was a brace by Dani Ceballos Fernandez, who was making his first league start the Spanish champions, that saw off the struggling Alaves, who netted their first goal of the season through Manu Garcia’s header.

Ronaldo twice fired shots that crept narrowly wide and saw another rebound off Alaves’ keeper’s far post.

The Portuguese missed the first four league games following a 5-match ban handed to him in their first leg of the Spanish Super Cup clash with Barcelona last month.

On his return against Real Betis on Wednesday, Madrid were beaten at the Bernabeu by their visitors who grabbed a late goal to stun the defending champions.

The Zinedine Zidane’s side have had a relatively disappointing start this season, having won only three of their first six games. They face Espanyol next on October 1st.
