KANU: Ohaneze Ndigbo youths beg Buhari for pardon

The Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) has claimed that its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has been touring the international community to solicit support for the independence of a Biafran state  from Nigeria.

The group boasted that the move which has seen Kanu hosted in several states of America by members of the group in the country and diplomatic society, has been gathering momentum.

This was disclosed in a statement IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful released on Tuesday, adding that Kanu was expected to move to Toronto, Canada, after he finished his tour of the United States.

“The international move to gather Biafrans together for the total and final liberation of Biafran people from Nigeria by our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is gathering momentum across the whole world. Our people in America hosted Kanu, his wife Uchechi and his entourage at the Martin Luther Jnr Centre in Atlanta Georgia on May 30.

“Many more Biafrans and Diaspora organisations are also preparing to host him in the various town hall meetings across the United States from Chicago to Houston, New York city, Maryland and Washington DC. He will also visit Toronto, Canada this weekend for an important meeting with IPOB family and Biafrans in Canada,” Powerful said.

The IPOB spokesman claimed that the visit is now bringing all Biafrans residing in America and other parts of the world together. He said the group will now pursue the Biafran struggle under one main ideology.

IPOB, a supposedly none violent group, has been clamouring for the independence of old eastern Nigeria from Africa’s most populous country.

The group has since been proscribed and declared a terrorist organisation by the Nigerian Government, amidst protest by many Nigerians, who wondered why a supposedly unarmed group would be branded as terrorists, while armed killer herdsmen are not.

Kanu who was undergoing trial for alleged treason, was released on bail, but fled the country, after his home was invaded by Nigerian soldiers. He resurfaced recently in Israel.
