Poland vs Nigeria friendly good for both nations -Rohr

Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr expressed delight after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed Nigeria’s friendly match against England’s Three Lions ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The pre-tournament warm-up has been scheduled to take place at the Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday, 2 June, 2018, according to an NFF press release on Wednesday.

“This is good news for myself and the entire team,” Rohr told thenff.com

“England is a very strong team presently and I believe they will give us a very good match. We will be able to test our readiness for the World Cup when we meet the Three Lions at Wembley”, he added.

The Eagles have been drawn alongside Croatia, Iceland and Argentina in Group D, and with their first match against Croatia comng exactly two weeks after, the England game will serve as the final preparatory game for the team.

Also commenting on the fixture, England coach, Gareth Southgate, whose side wil be up against Belgium, Panama and Tunisia in Group G, shared reasons why his team have chosen to play Nigeria and Costa Rica in June.

“We’ve mostly played European opposition up to now and the Brazil game acted as a reminder that we need to challenge ourselves in different ways as a team,” he explained.

“We’re going into a World Cup where we will play African and Central American opposition so we get that with the games against Nigeria and Costa Rica but it’s not just about the games we’ve got in the group but hopefully beyond that as well.

“We want to expose the team to different styles and different experiences,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles already have a confirmed date for a friendly against Poland in Warsaw on March 23.
