Russia joins growing list, quits ICC

Hard stance Russian President Vladmir Putin has announced his country’s exit from the International Criminal Court (ICC) based in The Hague, Netherlands.

Putin’s decree, published on the Kremlin’s website, comes a day after the U.N. General Assembly’s human rights committee approved a resolution condemning Russia’s “temporary occupation of Crimea”.

Russia now joins a growing list of disgruntled countries such as Gambia, Burundi and South Africa who have all severed ties with the court which rules on grave charges such as genocide and crimes against humanity.

Meanwhile, the ICC, two days ago released a report claiming that U.S. forces committed war crimes in Afghanistan and at secret detention facilities elsewhere in 2003 and 2004.
