RUSSIA PROBE: Mueller closing in on Trump, top Democrat reveals

A top Democrat has revealed that the investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller into President Donald Trump’s collusion with Russia in connection with last presidential election is almost completed.

Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), said Thursday that President Trump’s supporters must face the “reality” that Mueller is closing in on him.

“Lying to Congress is a serious crime with serious consequences,” Nadler said in a statement, referring to the plea deal Mueller reached with Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, earlier that day.

“Mr. Cohen has now admitted to lying about his contacts with Russian officials on behalf of President Trump. His guilty plea contemplates Mr. Cohen’s further cooperation with investigators. Anyone who still believes that this is a ‘witch hunt’ must now face the reality that the investigation appears to be closing in on the President.”

However, Trump has repeatedly railed against Mueller’s probe, often referring to it as a “disgrace” and a “witch hunt.”

“When will this illegal Joseph McCarthy style Witch Hunt, one that has shattered so many innocent lives, ever end-or will it just go on forever?” he tweeted early Thursday. “After wasting more than $40,000,000 (is that possible?), it has proven only one thing-there was NO Collusion with Russia. So Ridiculous!”
