RUSSIA PROBE: Trump's ex campaign aide Manafort makes plea deal

Paul Manafort, a former campaign aide of US President Donald Trump has agreed to corporate with Special Counsel Robert Mueller as investigation into Russia’s influence in the 2016 presidential election thickens.

Reports say Manafort agreed to corporate with Mueller after he pleaded guilty to two federal crimes after cutting a deal with prosecutors over the probe.

The move by Manafort allows him to avoid a second criminal trial and ends his more than one year-long fight against investigators in the Russia investigation.

The plea deal requires him to cooperate “fully and truthfully” with Mueller’s investigation into whether Trump’s campaign worked with Moscow to influence the 2016 presidential election.

The development is coming days after Trump’s former adviser George Papadopoulos was handed a 14-year jail term after he plead guilty for lying to FBI probing whether campaign members coordinated with Russia before US election.

Papadopoulos, who became the first campaign aide sentenced in Mueller’s ongoing investigation, had said he was “deeply embarrassed” and acknowledged that his actions could have hindered the FBI agents’ work.
