RUSSIA PROBE: Trump's ex-campaign associate Stone pleads not guilty to charges

Roger Stone, a former campaign associate of president Donald Trump has kept to his promise of pleading not guilty after he was arrested on criminal charges last Friday.

The embattled longtime political ally of Trump, pleaded not guilty in a federal court in Washington, D.C., to lying to Congress, obstructing an official proceeding and witness tampering as investigation into allegations that Russia meddled in the 2016 presidential election hots up.

Moments after the court hearing, the a self-proclaimed “dirty trickster”, Stone flashed the twin “V for Victory” signs that Nixon was famous for but did not address the media.

“I am falsely accused,” Stone said outside the court in Ft Lauderdale, Florida after he was arrested last Friday, declaring himself “troubled by the political motivations of the prosecutors”.

He also pledged his support for Trump – one of his “oldest friends” – saying, “I have made it clear that I will not testify against the president because I would have to bear false witness against him.”
