Michael Cohen, former lawyer of US President Donald Trump has admitted to having contacts with Russian interests as far back as 2015.

That much was revealed in a memo by the federal special counsel in a court filing on Friday as investigations continue over Russia’s influence in the last election that brought Trump into power.

In one of the filings, Special Counsel Robert Mueller details how Cohen spoke to a Russian who “claimed to be a ‘trusted person’ in the Russian Federation who could offer the campaign ‘political synergy’ and ‘synergy on a government level.”

Last week, a top Democrat revealed that the investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller into Trump’s collusion with Russia in connection with last presidential election is almost completed.

According to Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), President Trump’s supporters must face the “reality” that Mueller is closing in on him.

However, Trump has repeatedly railed against Mueller’s probe, often referring to it as a “disgrace” and a “witch hunt.”
