Russia to cut itself off global internet

A total of 11,231 new cases of covid-19 has emerged in Russia within the last 24-hours, the country’s covid-19 response team declared in a statement.

Altogether, Russia has seen 177,160 cases and 1,625 deaths since the pandemic hit the country in late January.

With the pressure mounting, health care workers have reportedly made videos protesting lack of protective gear and forced labour despite having contracted the virus themselves.

Over the past two weeks, at least three health care workers in Russia have mysteriously plunged out of their hospital windows drawing public attention to the working conditions of the doctors amidst the pandemic.

Critics have described the incidents as the effects of “stress faced by doctors under an underfunded system during a pandemic”.

Meanwhile, the Russian government has extended lockdown measures until May 12.
