RUSSIA TIES PROBE: Trump's ex-adviser offers to talk

Michael Flynn, former national security adviser, for President Donald Trump has offered to testify before congressional committee probing potential ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.

However, Flynn who was forced to resign as Trump’s national security adviser in February over contacts with Russian officials wants protection against “unfair prosecution,” according to his counsel.

“General Flynn certainly has a story to tell, and he very much wants to tell it, should the circumstances permit,” said a statement on Thursday from Flynn’s lawyer, Robert Kelner.

Flynn’s testimony could help throw more light on the conversations he had with Russian Ambassador to the United States Sergey Kisylak last year when he was the national security adviser for Trump’s presidential campaign.

The development is coming three days after Trump’s son in-law’s and his most senior adviser Jared Kushner was questioned over his ties with Russia, and a day after the US Senate Committee revealed that 20 others will be questioned over the issue.

According to the Republican chairman of the committee, Richard Burr, who declined to identify any of the 20 invited for questioning, except Trump’s son in-law, the Senate panel will probe alleged Russian interference in last year’s US election.

Burr and the top Democrat on the panel, Senator Mark Warner, said on Wednesday they would steer clear of politics in their probe.
