S.Korea prosecutors seek warrant of arrest for Samsung leader
Special prosecutors in South Korea are seeking a warrant for the arrest of the head of Samsung group Jay Y. Lee who was summoned days ago as a suspect over ongoing graft probe involving President Park Geun-hye and her friend Choi Soon-sil.
An official at Seoul central district court said the arrest warrant must be approved by a court and the date of the hearing has still to be confirmed, but it is likely to be Wednesday, the official said.
Lee was questioned for 22 straight hours last week as investigators probe a scandal that has reached the highest levels of power in South Korea.
Prosecutors in South Korea have been checking whether Samsung’s support for a business and foundations backed by Park’s friend, Choi Soon-sil was connected to a 2015 decision by the National Pension Service to back a controversial merger of two Samsung Group affiliates.
