Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that the alleged budget padding by the National Assembly only vindicates his claim that the federal lawmakers are “armed robbers and rogues.”

The ex-president once branded the lawmakers “armed robbers and rogues,” which was not taken lightly by many of them.

However, with the present allegation involving Speaker Yakubu Dogara and other principal members of the Lower House, Obasanjo said he has been vindicated, advising that the best way out of the present confusion was to ensure that only men of integrity are elected into the National Assembly.

He said this on Monday while responding to questions by State House correspondents soon after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to Obasanjo, those who refused to believe him when he initially made the claim, have no option now than know he was not telling lies with the latest revelation.

Obasanjo, who was the president of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007, his move to be re-elected as a third term President met stiff opposition from lawmakers then.
