Egypt coach, Hector Cuper reveals that Mohamed Salah will be fit to play in their opening game against Uruguay on Friday, adding that the Liverpool winger could emerge top goalscorer at the FIFA 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Salah, who suffered a shoulder injury during the UEFA Champions League final last month, was a fitness doubt for the Pharaohs, but has been undergoing treatment and special training with hopes of playing for his country at the mundial.

“Salah is doing very well indeed, he’s recovered very quickly. We’ll see how it goes today. I can almost assure you 100 percent he’ll play, save unforeseen circumstances at the very last minute,” Cuper told reporters.

“Salah has three training sessions per day. He does training with the doctors, by himself and with specific exercises.

“He’s recovered from his injury but he still trains a lot. He has to do physical training and mental training. Why? That’s what he feels he needs to recover.”

Salah had an excellent first season with Liverpool. The forward scored 32 times for the Reds in the Premier League to win the golden booth, and was also instrumental to their reaching the final of the Champions League.

Cuper is thus confident that the talisman, who fired Egypt to their first World Cup in 28 years, can repeat the feat at the global showpiece in Russia.

“He could become the top goalscorer here and one of the greatest players.

“He’s shown he’s got great personality, talent and character. No-one thinks he can’t [be top scorer]. We’ll see great players here and he can be the greatest player [of all] at this World Cup,” the coach added.

Egypt will begin their campaign against Uruguay on Friday, before facing Russia and Saudi Arabia in their other group games.
