Salah shines, set goals records as Liverpool thrash Roma in UCL semi

Reigning African Footballer of the Year, Mohamed Salah, was again at his best for Liverpool as his goals and assists helped the Reds thrash AS Roma in a Champions League semi-final clash at Anfield.

Salah scored twice and made two assists to put Liverpool in charge of the tie, àlthough two late Roma goals gave the Serie A side a glimmer of hope ahead of the second leg.

The Egyptian curled his first into the top corner from the edge of the box, before clipping the ball from the edge of the box for a second – his 43rd goal since arriving Anfield last summer.

Salah becomes the highest goal scorer in Europe’s five big leagues, a goal ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo (42) in all competitions this season. He alsocbeomes the first Liverpool player to hit double number – 10 goals – in a season’s Champions League.

After the break, the Reds continued to dominate as Sadio Mane made it 3-0 with a Salah assist.

Salah then assisted Roberto Firmino to hit the fouth, before the Brazilian headed in a fifth following James Milner’s corner.

With the home side leading 5-0, Salah was taken off, and the visitors rallied back as Edin Dzeko scored and Diego Perotti converted a penalty after Milner handled Nainggolan’s shot.

Roma, who defeated Barcelona in the quarterfinal, will need to score three unreplied goals in the second leg to stand a chance of reaching the final.

The Italian giants will host Liverpool next week Wednesday.
