Sanusi meets with Miyetti Allah, asks them to reveal killer herdsmen

Emir of Kano and former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has called on the leadership of herdsmen, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) to reveal their members perpetrating evil in Benue and other parts of the country.

A statement quoted the emir as making this call in Minna, when he met with the national executive council meeting of MACBAN.

The monarch, the statement claimed, was worried that Fulani herdsmen were now being generally painted as criminals, which he said they are not.

He therefore called Nigerians to shun ethnic profiling anytime a crime was committed, adding that “criminals have no tribal marks.”

Also in attendance at the meeting were the Lamido of Adamawa, Muhammadu Barkindo Musdafa, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, Dr. Aliyu Tilde and other stakeholders.

Sanusi had also during the meeting called on MACBAN to try and mediate with the governors of Niger, Kogi, Nasarawa and Kano states who have indicated interest to allocate grazing reserves, with a view to developing them.

MACBAN zonal chairman, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, said in his remarks, “Conflict between herdsmen and farmers has a long history; the solution has been to engage all stakeholders to find an amicable solution to the conflict.”

Siddiki singled out Anambra and Enugu states governors, Willie Obiano and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi respectively, and commended their approach on the issues, saying that they “have been able to effectively stem the recurring clashes between farmers and herders at a time their other peers and the Federal Government are at a loss on how to handle the clashes.”
