Saraki’s last laugh

Published

on

In from Chukwuma Michael…

This is the best of times for Senate President, Bukola Saraki as he can heave a sigh of relief given the vote of confidence passed on him and the National Assembly leadership during last Friday’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Saraki had before now faced barrage of attacks from members of his party, especially the leadership over his emergence against their preferred candidate, Senator Ahmad Lawan.

However, the crisis, which had not only impeded the commencement of legislative activities in the Eight National Assembly and governance at the centre, appears to have been laid to rest as the various camps in the wrangling have to sheathe their swords following the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Though the National leader of the party and former interim National Chairman, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Chief Bisi Akande were conspicuously absent during the parley, President Buhari did not mince words when he asked everyone to pocket their selfish ambition and allow the party and, by extension, his government to work.

“The elections have come and gone. The APC has won the battle, but lost the war. This is the paradox of democracy and we shall see how we can manage it going forward,” the president said, urging the legislators to accept the superiority of the party.

Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has reiterated the commitment of the 8th Senate to the success of President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in its efforts to change the situation of things in Nigeria for the better.

The plea for frayed nerves to calm so that governance could commence, may have spurred Saraki’s assurance to state chairmen of the APC, who later visited him after the NEC meeting that Buhari and the APC-led government must succeed.

The Senate President stated that the Senate would not disappoint Nigerians neither would the APC senators abandon the party on whose platform they made promises of development, security and improved standard of living to the people.

“Finally, I want to use this opportunity to assure you of our cooperation with the executive arm led by our President, President Muhammadu Buhari, with the party and its members across the country,” he said.

Definitely good news…Just wish Jagaban was a part of it. I feel like he will feel like the biggest loser. Get all these men together to transform an opposition party to a ruling party nd now being left out…
    It must suck

@ Lucassi, I feel like the choice has always been Jagaban’s to make. I maintain that his major contribution to the success of APC notwithstanding, it is unbecoming for a man of his stature to remain sulky for this long simply because for once, things didn’t go exactly his way. He didn’t make APC single-handed anyway.

Well…am just more than glad that people are beginning to put team results over personal success or so it seems. What is the point of hitting success if there is no team to celebrate with you any ways? We need to roll up our sleeves and work or watch this nation grind to a stop. Selah
