KHASHOGGI: Saudi detains 18 people, dismisses 5 senior govt officials

The first court hearing of 11 suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi has taken place according to Saudi Arabia’s state media.

Reports say Saudi prosecutors demanded death penalty for five of the 11 suspects arrested in connection with the murder of the journalist during the trial in the capital, Riyadh.

Saudi prosecutors revealed in a statement that the arrested suspects who attended the hearing with their lawyers were put on trial following a request sent to Turkey for evidence in connection with Khashoggi’s gruesome murder.

Recall that Khashoggi went missing on October 2 after a visit to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul and it was later established that he was murdered inside the consulate by a Saudi hit squad in a rogue operation.
