Trump set for another round of backlash as he moots plan to end birthright citizenship

Saudi Arabia’s account of the murder in Turkey of missing journalist Jamal Khashoggi is unacceptable, so says US President Donald Trump.

The US leader said on Monday that he was still not satisfied with what he has heard from Saudi Arabia about Khashoggi killing, but did not want to lose investment from Riyadh.

“I am not satisfied with what I’ve heard,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “I don’t want to lose all that investment that’s been made in our country. But we’re going to get to the bottom of it.”

He later told USA Today that he believed the death was a “plot gone awry.”

Khashoggi, a columnist for The Washington Post who wrote critically of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s (MBS) rise to power, went missing on October 2 after entering the consulate in Istanbul to obtain documents needed for his upcoming marriage.

A statement revealed that he died in brawl which broke out inside the building shortly after he entered but made no mention of where his body is.

Saudi Attorney-General Sheikh Saud al-Mojeb said Khashoggi died after “discussions” at the consulate devolved into an altercation.
