Second White House aide quits amid domestic abuse allegations

Two days after White House staff secretary Rob Porter resigned from his position following alleged abuse by his ex-wives, another aide David Sorensen, White House speechwriter has resigned after domestic abuse allegations.

Sorensen, who worked at the Council on Environmental Quality is being accused by his former wife that he violently and emotionally abused her in claims which he denies.

His former wife said that on separate occasions her former husband ran a car over her foot, threw her against a wall and extinguished a cigarette on her hand.

However, Mr Sorensen in his response released a statement in which he said he had “never committed violence of any kind against any woman in my entire life” and that instead it was he who had been physically abused.

Mr Sorensen’s case is similar to that of Mr Porter who stepped down from his position following allege abuse by his ex-wives which he also claims “are simply false”.

According to reports, the ex-wives of Porter, Colbie Holderness and Jennifer Willoughby, have both vividly recounted the stories of abuse they suffered in the hands of their former husband.

His first spouse, Ms Holderness, said the White House aide had been verbally and physically abusive.

His second spouse, Ms Willoughby, a motivational speaker, also wrote about her experiences in a blog post entitled Why I Stayed.
