Security guard, chef arrested for stealing employer’s property worth N5.5m in Lagos
Two individuals, a 24-year-old chef and a 47-year-old security guard, have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) for allegedly stealing their employer’s property worth N5.5 million.
The suspects, identified as Olusola Folorunso, a chef, and Rafiu Mutairu, a security guard, were employed at the same estate in Ojodu, Ikeja. According to an RRS statement shared on X.com Tuesday, the alleged theft took place while their employer was abroad on a trip in September 2024.
The stolen items, which included five split air conditioners, a chest freezer, a pumping machine, a fridge, a freezer, an inverter, and various pieces of jewelry, were valued at N5.5 million.
The police said its investigation revealed that Folorunso was responsible for moving the stolen items from his employer’s residence, while Mutairu helped find buyers for them. After the theft, Folorunso fled to Badagry, but despite efforts to recover the stolen goods, he remained uncooperative.

“Investigations further revealed Folorunso ran away to Badagry after committing the crime, and all efforts to get him to assist in the recovery of those items proved futile,” the statement read.
The suspects were eventually tracked down and arrested in the Badagry and Ishasi areas of Lagos State.
RRS Commander, CSP Shola Jejeloye, has directed that both suspects be charged in court.
