The decomposing remains of the former lawmaker who represented Onitsha 1 North Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Justice Azuka, has been reportedly found on the 2nd Niger Bridge by security operatives on Thursday.

The deceased who was a chieftain of the Labour Party (LP), was abducted by unknown gunmen on December 24, 2024, while returning home on Ugwunaobankpa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha, and efforts by the police to rescue him had been futile.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga who confirmed the discovery in a short message, said the police has commenced investigation into the shocking discovery and would provide details in due course.

“Yes, our operatives are currently at the scene. As soon as I get more details, I will keep you updated,” the police spokesman said.

The police only had a breakthrough on Wednesday after weeks of intensive investigation when security operatives from the Force Headquarters in Abuja apprehended some of the suspects in the abduction of the lawmaker and the arrested suspects led authorities to the location where they had dumped the lawmaker’s remains.

A security operative who was part of the mission confirmed the arrest to journalists on the condition of anonymity.

“We have arrested the culprits that kidnapped and killed him. They were arrested very late on
Wednesday night and they now went and showed the security men where they dumped the corpse.”
