Nigeria In One Minute

Segun Osoba!!!

By Joseph Edgar…

Uncle Sege after all his shakara has gone back to his vomit. He left APC in a huff and vowed never to return. However after months of irrelevance, suffering out in the cold he has come crawling back into the fold claiming he was begged to come back.

But what does this signify? You have to look at this comeback within the context of the political dynamics of the contending forces in south west politics.

It is no longer a secret that the powers that be may have lost their influence over the young triumvirate of Amosu, Fashola and Fayemi. It is this believe that Osoba may have zoomed in to take advantage and offer himself as a bulwark against the spreading influence and Neo independence that these three may have been wielding in not only the politics of the South West but also in national politics.

What we are seeing here is most likely the preparation for the 2019 elections. Osoba is still a very influential politician, with strong goodwill and an incorruptible image. He only was a poor tactician as could be seen as when he lost his seat due to his failure to see through the cunningness of OBJ. He also showed this weakness in the last dispensation when he miscalculated, lost out in the influence sphere and sounded he death knell to his career by jumping ship making him swim against the tide.

The sea of change was furious, it was coming in strong, the Buhari wave was so strong and every right thinking politician, even the legendary OBJ jumped on board. But Osoba in his characteristic near sightedness jumped out because of the squabble he had with Amosun who is believed to be Buhari’s strongest ally in the South West.

What impact did he think he could make from outside of the camp. He should have either retired from active politics if he could not stand the heat or moved on to national politics to play at the level of the Akandes and Iyogun.

Today, he has been rehabilitated to be used as a cannon fodder against the growing influence of the three musketeers. Let’s see just how effective he will be in this his new role especially with the seeming battle for access and proximity the Asiwaju is playing with the centre.

But if you ask me, I would say Osoba is a spent force and should be allowed to go home and rest. He
has fought the good battle and has shown that in his hey days he was a strong contender. It’s over now and he of all people should know this.
