Seminarian’s killing: Herdsmen flee Enugu over fears of reprisal

Published

Indications have emerged that cattle rearers are fleeing Enugu State over fears of a reprisal after a Catholic seminarian was killed during the invasion of Attakwu community by armed herdsmen on Thursday.

The seminarian, identified as Lazarus Nwafor, was butchered during the early morning attack on the community, which is located in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The trainee-Catholic priest was from Orlu, Imo State, and it was learnt that he had just returned to the community on Wednesday following a visit to his parents.

Four others sustained severe injuries and are currently in critical condition in a hospital receiving treatment.

The latest incident comes exactly four months after several persons were killed when another Enugu community – Ukpabi Nimbo – was attacked by herdsmen on April 25.
