The Senate has asked its ad-hoc committee chaired by the Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan, to look into Senator Dino Melaye’s report against the Inspector General of the Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris.

The Senate has asked its ad-hoc committee chaired by the Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan, to look into Senator Dino Melaye’s report against the Inspector General of the Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris.

It also wants the committee to examine the senator’s claim of attempts by Kogi State government to assassinate him.

Melaye, who represents Kogi West had during the plenary on Tuesday, drew Senate attention to continuous attacks on him and the IGP’s alleged refusal to honour the order of court, which asked him to release the senator’s international passport.

“I have written to all relevant authorities; I want the Senate to take note of these continuous attacks. There was an order asking the IG to release my international passport. I’m asking the IG to obey the court order.

“At 1am, men with covered faces invaded my residence and started shooting sporadically. They came to arrest me over an alleged offense I committed on 19th of July. This is the 5th time Kogi Government is using police to try to assassinate me,” Melaye said.

Further citing order 14, raising the issue of his attempted assassination, Melaye added, “I travelled on Thursday to my Local Government where PDP supporters welcomed me. At 7:30pm, I got intel that SARS men were called to assassinate me.”

Responding, Senate President Bukola said, “It is a very sensitive matter and anything we say now might appear partisan. Let an ad-how committee chaired by the Senate Leader look into this issue.”
