Senate bans public hearing, closes gallery where journalists, others converge over fears of coronavirus

The Nigerian Senate has banned all forms of public hearing and excursion of students to the Senate.

It also announced the closure of its gallery to the public.

The gallery is where journalists and other members of the public, converged to listen to the plenaries of the lawmakers.

This was announced by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, at the Thursday plenary, after a one-hour closed session.

The partial closure of its activities to members of the public was taken as part of efforts to keep Coronavirus away from the National Assembly complex.

According to Lawan, till further notice, all forms of public hearing and excursion of students to the Senate have been suspended.
