Senate Committee walks out EFCC reps

Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions looking into a petition that chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde allegedly diverted about N1 trillion recovered from corrupt public officials on Wednesday asked representatives of the anti-graft agency who had showed up to defend the agency to leave the venue of the hearing.
Chairman of the Committee, Senator Samuel Anyanwu (PDP, Imo) explained that the EFCC officials were not expected to appear at the meeting, given, that they had written to be allowed more time to make their presentation.
He went on to read a letter from the EFCC, seeking the permission of the upper chamber to appear at a later date when the comprehensive annual audit report, would have been received from KPMG, an audit firm.
The committee’s action followed an attempt by an EFCC Director, Legal, Chile Okoroma, to respond to the petitioner, Mr. George Uboh, who made an oral presentation before the committee.

Lamorde was absent at the hearing, but was represented by Barrister Osuagwu Ugochukwu and other staff of the agency.
Meanwhile, Lamorde’s representative, Barrister Ugochukwu who spoke to Journalists shortly after he was walked out alongside others, said that the EFCC boss asked him to represent him (Lamorde) at the hearing.
He added that he was disappointed with the Senate Committee, and
The EFCC lawyer had expressed reservations over the decision of the committee to listen to the petitioner without the representatives of the commission on seat.

    This is not more than a case of two elephants fighting, PMB’s war against corruption must not be allowed to super any divisionary tactics by the NAS
