Senate confirms Owasanoye as ICPC chair

The appointment of Professor Bolaji Owasanoye as chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission’s (ICPC’s) has been confirmed by the Senate.

The lawmakers confirmed him along eight others who will serve as members of the anti-graft agency’s board.

The board members are Grace Chinda from Delta State Okolo Titus (Enugu State), Obiora Igwedebia (Anambra State), Olubukola Balogun (Lagos State) and Justice Adamu Bello (Katsina State).

Others are Hannatu Muhammed (Jigawa State), Abdullahi Saidu (Niger State) and Yahaya Dauda (Nasarawa State).

The Senate at its Thursday sitting also confirmed the appointment of Justice Uwani Abba as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The chairman of a sister anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, had continued to function in acting capacity after the Senate on two different occasions refused to confirm him and even asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sack him over allegation of corruption levelled against him by the Department of State Security Service (DSS).
