Senate in hot debate over MTEF document Buhari resent

Open invitation! Senate invites public to 2017 budget hearing

Senators on Wednesday engaged each other in a heated debate over the new Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and the Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) documents resent to the Red Chamber by President Muhammadu Buhari.

All the lawmakers who have spoken so far on the issue, have rejected the documents, describing them as empty and unrealistic.

Besides Senator Sani Yerima who spoke in favour of the proposal, every other lawmaker who has spoken, said the documents should be returned

The two documents were rejected early this month by the Senate. They had argued that the documents were shallow and could therefore not be approved.

They had also argued that the necessary information needed to consider the documents were not attached, as expected. It is still unclear whether or not the documents will be approved by the Senate.
