Senate revisits Gender Equality bill
A bill on gender equality has been reintroduced in the 9th National Assembly by Senator Biodun Olujimi (Ekiti South).
The bill, which is seeking gender equality that would guarantee women equal rights with their male counterparts, was introduced in 2015 and was thrown out.
Senator Olujimi, a former Senate Minority Leader reintroduced it during the 8th Senate and it was also thrown out.
At the plenary on Tuesday, the bill, entitled “Gender and Equal Opportunity Bill, 2019(SB.208)”, in line with parliamentary proceedings was reintroduced.

Among other things, the bill seeks to permit women to have equal rights with men in marriage, education and employment as well as to eliminate discrimination against any person irrespective of his gender on any ground including sexual violence against women.
