Senate turns rowdy over FG’s social intervention programme

The Senate on Wednesday turned rowdy following allegations that the Social Intervention Programme of the Federal Government had been turned into a campaign tool.

Making the allegation on the floor of the Senate, the minority leader, Senator Biodun Olijimi said the beneficiaries of the programme were being asked to provide details of their permanent voters card in the application form.

Presenting a copy of the form to drive home her argument, the PDP lawmaker pointed out that ‘I Stand with Buhari’ was written on it.

Soon before he was allowed to speak, the majority leader, Senator Ahmed Lawan who was going to defend the Buhari-led administration programme, the chamber already became lousy as lawmakers from both the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party exchanged words.

With several other arguments floating in the air, the APC lawmakers forced the Senate to resolve that the SURE-P policy of the immediate past ‎PDP government led by former President Goodluck Jonathan be probed.
