Senator McCaine thwarts Trump's plan to repeal Obamacare

For the second time in months, Arizona senator, John McCain has dealt a potentially fatal blow to fellow Republicans’ latest effort led by President Donald Trump to repeal Obamacare.

The Senator who is battling brain cancer, said he “cannot in good conscience” vote for the new plan, noting that it was wrong to pass such far-reaching legislation without input from the Democrats.

In a statement on Friday, the Arizona senator said such a bill demands extensive hearings, debate and amendment.

“That is the only way we might achieve bipartisan consensus on lasting reform,” he wrote, “without which a policy that affects one-fifth of our economy and every single American family will be subject to reversal with every change of administration and congressional majority.”

Early this month, Trump, sought a 90 percent cut to the advertising budget for Obamacare during the upcoming enrollment period.

In 2016, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services spent $100 million on Obamacare advertising and outreach, but for this year’s open enrollment period, CMS plans on spending $10 million.

Trump’s administration also plans on cutting grant money for Navigator programs (which are required by the ACA), which receive funds to assist with public enrollment in Obamacare.
