APC secretariat, angry youth invasion of APC secretariat, FCT senatorial primary

The All Progressive Congress (APC) has incurred the wrath of its youth, who invaded its Abuja secretariat, over adoption of direct primaries for the senatorial ticket in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Following the development, the party’s national secretariat was virtually on a security lockdown to prevent youths from causing damages with their violent protest.

The grouse of the youths, who identified themselves as FCT natives, is that if direct primary is allowed that a non-FCT native could clinch the ruling party’s ticket for the sole senatorial seat in the territory.

The youths wondered how the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC would impose the direct method on them when all contestants for the various positions in the FCT allegedly agreed on the use of indirect primaries.

According to them, nothing explains the action of the party NWC if not a plot to impose a particular aspirant on them. They said that through the indirect mode, they are sure that an indigene of the FCT will emerge as the candidate of the party.

In their violent protest, the youth pulled down the security wire around the secretariat and destroyed the billboard in front of it, then locked up the entrance into the secretariat and dared the police to shoot them.

Calm however was restored after the Commissioner of Police in the FCT arrived the scene with more security operatives.

Meanwhile, the angry youths after they were dispersed by the police, vowed to re-launch a more vicious attack on the secretariat should the NWC decision not be reversed.

While the protest lasted, they angry youths chanted anti-Oshiomhole slogans.

At least nine aspirants are contesting the Senatorial primary in the FCT.
