Senate demands for details of recovered lots from EFCC boss Magu

Two leading members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Senate, Senators Ali Ndume and Dino Melaye, were earlier in the day, engaged in war of words over the confirmation hearing of the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu

The two lawmakers, it was gathered, engaged in a fierce exchange of words during a pre-sitting meeting in the office of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

It was gathered that while Ndume gave nod to the screening of Magu, Melaye on the other hand, kicked against it, after which they were locked in a shouting match.

The meeting, where the sharp exchange of words took place, commenced at about 9.55am and lasted till almost 11am.

Ripples Nigeria gathered that while some Senators rooted for an open screening of Magu at plenary, others were opposed to it, saying the EFCC nominees should be referred to the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes for screening.

Ndume and Dino later exchanged words in public after the meeting at the entrance to the Senate chambers to the surprise of onlookers and security operatives.

While all this was going on, some Senators were already seated in the Red Chamber waiting for the confirmation hearing of Magu and four other board nominees of the commission listed on today’s (Wednesday’s) Order Paper.
