Northern, southern leaders endorse Atiku Abubakar

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has advised presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, against granting amnesty to those who loot Nigeria’s treasury.

Atiku had when he appeared at a town hall meeting tagged ‘The Candidates’ on Wednesday said he would grant amnesty to looters if he becomes Nigeria’s president.

According to him, he would invest the money that would be recovered from the looters in Nigeria’s economy.

But responding in a message on its Twitter handle, SERAP said Atiku would only end up increasing corruption in Nigeria, and vowed to challenge the plan in court, should the PDP presidential candidate win the election and adopts the measure.

“Dear @Atiku granting amnesty for (to) corrupt persons will exacerbate impunity for corruption in Nigeria.

“SERAPNigeria will challenge any such amnesty if it’s ever adopted as a policy, should you be elected into the office.

“The corrupt must be held to account, and not escape justice,” SERAP said.
