Serena Williams wants a 'surprise' over baby's gender

At the Met Gala in New York on Tuesday, star Tennis player Serena Williams revealed that she does not yet know whether her new baby will be a boy or a girl.

The 35-year old, who was with her fiancé Alexis Ohanian, added that they have chosen not to find out the baby’s sex, as they’ll wait for it as a surprise.

“We are waiting!” said the Australian Open champion. “We will wait for a surprise. We call it ‘baby’.”

The 23-time Grand Slam winner confirmed her pregnancy last month – having accidentally announced it via a photo on Snapchat, and removed the photo almost immediately.

Her spokeswoman, who later confirmed the pregnancy, also stated she will be taking the rest of 2017 as maternity leave but would return to competition next year.

Meanwhile, on the Humans of New York website, Ohanian paid tribute to his fiancée.

“She has the biggest heart. Everyone sees her success as an athlete, but all of that is layered on the size of her heart. She gives 100 per cent of herself to everything she does: as a friend, as a lover, and soon, as a mother.”

The two announced their engagement in December last year.
