Seun Egbegbe’s bail stalls, to remain in police custody

Serial fraudster Olajide Oluwaseun Kazeem, better known as Seun Egbegbe appeared in court today to hear his bail application before Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo of the Federal High Court in Lagos.

But his bail application was stalled because the police officer who would swear to the affidavit on his behalf was ill, meaning that the movie producer will spend more time in the custody of the police.

According to the prosecutor, Innocent Anyigor, while addressing the court; “We have been served an affidavit but we are unable to file a counter affidavit because the police officer who is supposed to depose to the counter affidavit is sick. Because of this development, we will leave the matter in discretion of the court to decide on what to do”.

Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo, the presiding judge, while responding to the development adjourned the hearing of the bail application to Friday, February 24, 2017 but not after ordering the police to present any officer who would depose to the counter affidavit.

“Since the matter has been left in discretion of the court, the court hereby gives the police till Thursday to file a counter affidavit”, Justice Oguntoyinbo said.

It could be recalled that a bail application was filed by the counsel to the accused, Miss. A. O. Gbadamoshi, prompting Justice Oguntoyinbo to fix the hearing for today after a request from the police prosecutor who called for more time to file his objections to the application.

However, Seun who was arrested by men of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) of Lagos State Police Command, and subsequently arraigned alongside his alleged accomplice, Oyekan Ayomide on a 36 count charge of conspiracy and fraud for defrauding some Bureau De Change operators of the sums of N39, 098,100, $90,000 and £12,550 between 2015 and 2017 is now said to be getting familiar with his new temporary home, the Ikoyi Prisons, Ribadu Road Ikoyi, Lagos.

According to reports, the Ebony Films Productions boss who has a pending case of iPhone theft hanging over his head has been receiving sympathisers and guests who have been sending food and toiletries in a general cell with about 50 inmates.
