Seun Kuti, scion of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo has for the umpteenth time taken a dig at fakers who now want to associate with his late father and his legacy.

In a lengthy message posted on Instagram; the father of one quipped that those who now want to associate with his late father’s legacy weren’t there when his family had to endure the struggles of being a part of Fela’s life.

The talented percussionist also took time-out to recount how his mum and step mum, Najite, suffered brutality in the hands of Nigerian soldiers who oppressed them because of Fela’s fearlessness.

Seun wrote; “Whatever you think Fela went through, he went through with his family. We were his rock. My mother used to tell me bed time stories about all the scars on her. My step mum, Najite was the first person the soldiers saw in kalakuta, she was swimming, they picked her up by her head from the pool and broke her neck!!

“My mother had a broken bayonet stitched into her and she couldn’t walk for 18months. The amount of state sanctioned violence I have seen in my life as a child. When I was 9 I saw the cops shot and kill one of my dads boys in front of shrine and just left him there for nothing. Fela tried to protect us but u can’t protect anyone from that!

“You know these f*cking cops would come to our house and just shoot up the place at least 2ice a week? Do y’all know that? Or u think this is just play play? See Fela’s music is a gift for the world and everyone is welcome but our legacy is ours alone, to protect and nurture. Y’all fakers stay waaaaay back. This isn’t your space. #getthesax

Seun’s message is coming a week after he denounced American rapper Kanye West over comments he made about his late father.

The rapper had on his Instagram page claimed in a video that the spirit of late music legends like; Bob Marley, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and 2pac Shakur flows through him and that’s the reason why he makes the best music in the world.

Kanye in the Instagram video said; “My music is the best on the planet. I am the best living recording artist. We, rather, because the spirits flow through me. The spirit of Fela, the spirit of Marley, the spirit of Pac flows through me. We know who the best.”

The comments made by Kanye did however not go down well with Seun who also took to his Instagram page to denounce the comments made by the America rapper.

Seun wrote; “Erm erm on behalf of the Kuti family, I want to state that the spirit of Olufela Anikulapo Kuti isn’t anywhere near Kanye West.

“@ziggymarley over to you. ?????? @oldmanebro come get ur boi before I #getthesax.”
